Region Exceeds Conservation Targets By Impressive Margins

Tom Eckman, conservation resources manager, reported that the region is not only meeting the targets set in the Council's Fifth Power Plan, but is far surpassing them. In 2007 the region reached a new record by saving 200 average megawatts of electricity, enough to power about 146,000 homes.

Council Approves Funding for Lake Rufus Woods Project

The Council approved funding for a new project (70k PDF) sponsored by the Colville Tribe. The project will stock triploid rainbow trout in Lake Rufus Woods, the reservoir between Chief Joseph and Grand Coulee dams, to increase the tribe's subsistence harvest, as well as recreational harvest for everyone.

Taskforce to Advance Energy Efficiency

Ken Canon briefed (100k PDF) the Council on the plans of the newly formed Northwest Energy Taskforce. The group, with participants from utilities, business, government, and others, will be working to identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency — "the most important resource," noted Canon.
