Council Invites Public Comment on 29 Subbasin Plans

The Council approved the release of 29 subbasin plans for public comment at its October meeting. See this link for the draft amendments to the Council's fish and wildlife program, including background information and instructions on how to submit your comments. Public hearings are scheduled in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.

Public Hearings on the Fifth Power Plan

Public hearings are scheduled in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington for the Council's Fifth Power Plan. The power plan recommends strategies to assure the region of an adequate, efficient, economical, and reliable power system. The Council is accepting comments on the power plan until November 19.

Council Takes Next Step to a Regional Approach to Avian Predation

The Council discussed issues regarding avian predation of juvenile salmonids in the Columbia River Basin. Recent studies have highlighted potential issues for the Council's fish and wildlife program, including the need for a regional approach to managing avian predation.
    The Council agreed that a meeting with representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Mid-Columbia hydrosystem operators, and University of Washington researchers should be convened to work on a long-term solution to these issues.
